Clean and Crisp
Cocksedge Building Contractors invited me to showcase their development on Risbygate St, Bury St Edmunds. The brief was to deliver clean, crisp images and blue skies were a must. Luckily, though we could have introduced a sky replacement in post, we got really lucky on the day with the weather: beautiful clear winter skies and not a cloud in sight.
We started at about 2pm, with the sun quickly fading. The relatively low-level of it helped cast interesting shadows over the building fascias, without dominating the shot – it was the equivalent to a 5pm start in the summer. Given the scale of the project, I instantly reached for the 10-20mm, though because it only stops to f/4, I needed to time the shots appropriately, to ensure that no pedestrians or traffic were in shot on the busy roadside. I don’t know how you feel about converging verticals but in this case, I didn’t think them appropriate, so they needed to be adjusted in post, along with a little balancing and cropping.
Overall, I was really pleased with the outcome, with the highlight being shots from a cherry-picker, getting an elevated view of the rear aspect – check them out below!
